the fabric of life ...
yesterday i spent some time sorting through the little one's wardrobes and drawers. taking out clothes that were too small or too stained. replacing them with clean washing (that i'd managed to get done in-between printing and stitching sessions).
whilst i working my way through, i realised the piles were starting to look a little uneven. i felt so ridiculously attached to some of their little tshirts, shirts and dresses that i couldn't bring myself to put them in the giveaway/sell/trash piles.
with so many memories wrapped up in their fabric, it felt heartless to just toss them.
so, when i spotted Lauren of the Next Stitch's upcycled patchwork quilt post i had a lovely lightbulb moment. i would make the little bird and baby bird a small patchwork quilt each. using squares from the clothes i couldn't bring myself to toss into the trash pile (and a couple of things i didn't really want to giveaway or store).
so i re-sorted the piles into ebay*, giveaway, trash and memory quilts. i also pulled out a couple of extra special little bits and pieces to pop into their memory trunks.
perfect solution. thanks Lauren** for the inspiration.
*and unusually for me i have already started listing items. quite amazing.
** Lauren will be launching a fabulous new online fabric and haberdashery shop in mid-july so do make sure you stop by and take a look. has now launched her new shop. Guthrie Ghani is now open for business!
