fairy time machine ...
i popped into the corner shop on my way to collect the little bird from school yesterday and spied this brilliantly retro limited edition fairy liquid bottle*. i usually favour the no colour, no scent kind but being an absolute sucker for good packaging, home it came.
my mom used fairy liquid when we were kids. and later in the afternoon as i squirted a little of the deep green liquid into a bowl of hot water, i was immediately transported through time to the long hot summers of my childhood.
the first whiff of that unmistakable warm soapy fairy smell took me back to water squirty fights in the garden (me and my brother, water-filled fairy bottles and drenched clothes).
to blue peter crafting sessions (washing up liquid bottle/pencil case was a perennial favourite**).
to standing on a stool, in front of our stainless steel kitchen sink, with my sleeves rolled up, learning how to wash up in the hope of snagging the much coveted brownie hostess badge (never did get it).
such vivid yet long forgotten memories. all sparked by a chance purchase of a £1.29 bottle of washing up liquid.
i'm going back to get another later.
water fight anyone?
*this is not an advertising post. just a very indulgent reminisce.
