what to call a baby giraffe?

photo credit : http://www.facebook.com/DublinZoothis morning, the little bird and i read all about dublin zoo's exciting new arrival.  a baby female giraffe, born on July 4th.  just adorable.  here she is pictured with her mother, maeve.

the little bird and i read of the zoo's search for a name for their cute new arrival and decided to do a little research and come up with something fitting.

so we read all about the giraffe's homeland, the african savanna.  we read about the trees and the plants that grow there.

we read about the giraffes and other animals that live on the plains.

we read all about the baobab tree, the acacia and the jackelberry.  then we spotted a picture of the jarrah tree.  a tall elegant tree with a straight trunk just like a giraffe's neck.  perfect.

so we visited dublin zoo's facebook page, read all the lovely ideas already submitted by others.  and added 'jarrah' to the list.

a little geography, a little googling, a little reading and learning together.  and a lot of fun.

What a lovely idea for a name and a great way to spend time with little bird! I hope they choose Jarrah now, it's perfect and you put good effort into coming up with it!
